Dans l’œil du cyclone

Irma le plus gros cyclone jamais enregistré par le centre américain NOAA est en cours de formation dans l’Atlantique mais hélas personne ne le sait encore. Un monstre d’une puissance destructrice inégalée se forme lentement mais sûrement. Sa traversée est lente mais continue et va inexorablement atteindre nos côtes. Rien ni personne ne pourra l’arrêter.

La Toussaint à Saint-Barthélemy

La Toussaint à St-Barthélemy est une période de rassemblement et de fête. C’est aussi le jour où l’on honore les morts à leurs dernières demeures.

A cette occasion, les cimetières s’illuminent et se remplissent de monde pour évoquer la mémoire des défunts, signe de respect et de reconnaissance.

Les Antillais ont un rapport particulier avec leurs défunts, où la douleur de la séparation de l’être aimé, laisse rapidement place à l’évocation joyeuse de la vie du disparu.
A l’approche de la Toussaint, les familles s’organisent et se préparent à cette communion. On nettoie les tombes. Certains les repeignent et fleurissent les tombes de leurs êtres chers. Bien s’occuper de la tombe montre l’importance accordée au défunt.

La Toussaint à Saint-Barthélemy est une période de fête où les familles à la nuit tombée se rassemblent. Les sépultures se couvrent petit à petit de nombreuses bougies rouges et blanches.
Le spectacle de ces cimetières ainsi éclairés par d’innombrables bougies est absolument féerique. Les cimetières de l’île déjà surprenants tant ils sont fleuris tout au long de l’année prennent vies et deviennent des lieux de partage pour communier avec les mémoires des défunts tant aimés. On y admire une harmonie et sérénité illuminées par toutes ces flammes alignées et vacillantes.

Il n’y a pas de morosité.

Dans les petits sentiers, les gens se saluent et discutent par petits groupes. Les enfants s’occupent entre eux. On évoque autant les morts que la vie au quotidien de la famille. Le spectacle de la Toussaint vient embellir cette nuit Antillaise à la tradition ancestrale dans un respect de communion.

Les cimetières de Lorient veillent tard dans la nuit pour le plus grand plaisir des touristes ébahis par cette nuit d’illuminations.

Mahi-Mahi au curry vert et à la citronnelle fraîche

Pour cette fabuleuse recette, j’ai choisi l’un des meilleur poisson local que l’on peut avoir ici à St-Barth, le Mahi-Mahi. C’est un poisson blanc plein de goût qui est pêché dans les eaux locales et servi directement dans votre assiette par les pêcheurs. Faites-vous couper le poisson en filet directement à la criée, pour le pêcheur, ça ne prendra que 5 minutes et cela vous évitera de vous battre pendant de longues si vous voulez le faire vous-même.

Ingredients
2 portions de mahi-mahi
2 bâtons de citronnelle
1 cuillère à soupe de pâte de curry vert
Coriandre fraîche
1 boîte de lait de coco
1 petit oignion
Quelques pousses de bébés maïs
1 Brocoli

Poché le Mahi dans de une eau bouillante légèrement salée pendant 5 minutes avec un peu de poivre gris. Réservez pendant quelques minutes.

Dans une grande casserole, lancez la cuisson des oignons dans un peu de beurre. Ajoutez y le lait de coco et portez à ébullition lentement.

Brisez doucement les bâtons de citronnelle et ajoutez les au lait de coco et laisser réduire à feu doux 10 minutes pour bien infuser.

Pendant ce temps, faites cuire le brocoli dans une eau bien salée.

Ajoutez la pâte de curry et mélangez jusqu’à avoir une sauce bien lisse.

Plongez les pousses de maïs et terminer par le Mahi.

Le dîner est prêt. Servez avec du riz de votre choix. Moi, j’ai choisi le riz basmati.

What’s to be done if you have only 24 hours to be spent in Saint-Barth?

First of all, make a tour along the marina. Depending of your day of arrival, you will be lucky enough to see there probably the most beautiful yachts of the planet or still the biggest sailboats of the world. Their meeting dates differ because for some, it will be necessary to come between Christmas and New-Year’s eve and for the others, toward the end in March, during the famous regatta known under the name of « Bucket Regata ». To participate in it, one only one rule: have a boat where the minimal length is 33 meters or 100 ft. There are also the other racing sailboats which come for  a short time to confront themselves in a friendly but serious competition. Your stroll should bring you at the end of the natural harbour and near the Anglican Church. Along this street is typical constructions of Swedish period. By walking a little further, you will discover the beach known as « Shell Beach », where the sunset is an appointment with everybody towards 18:15. In the course of your stroll on Gustavia, borrow the central street lined with palm trees. The latter will return you towards the city center where you will cross various bars and restaurants. Do not miss the compulsory visit of the luxury stores which crowd each other and where among badeaux you will meet maybe a personality. By raising your eyes, you will perceive the lighthouse of Gustavia which if you have the courage to climb on it, will offer you a fantastic view of Gustavia. It is possible to make a historic stroll of Gustavia by arming yourself with a small available guide in the bookshops of the island. There is no public transportation to Saint-Barthélemy, you should know, thus if you are have the opportunity to catch a taxi or rent a car, do not hesitate to make the island tour to discover it and among the most beautiful beaches of the Caribbean.

8 Things to do to relax to Saint-Barth

The wild beaches of Saint-Barth have this particularity to be still wild. Contrary to many sea resorts worldwide, and with the exception of 2 or 3 beaches in Saint-Barth, the major part of them, does not possess either restaurants, or bars, or other infrastructure on the latter. Away and far from the agitation, the beach of Saline offers a wide area of white sand which resounds as a call for calm and in the serenity. Situated behind saline, place where was formerly harvested the salt, you will circulate through a completely different landscape besides from the island. In Saint-Barth, the nudism is forbidden but you can meet from time to time one or another nudist having a walk. DO some shopping in Gustavia and to settle down at the Select bar. Of course, to walk up and down the streets of Gustavia and do some window-shopping. The most beautiful luxury brands mix there and will indulge to open you their doors. Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, etc…. For that to ask of better ? By keeping your momentum and probably given thirst by the heat, you will end your running at the  » SELECT Bar  » mythical place of Saint-Barth, remained unchanged since its creation in 1978. Plastic garden chairs, a root atmosphere but nice and known hamburgers worldwide. If you come to St-Barth, need at least that once you go to Select! End your day at the lighthouse of Gustavia looking at sunset.
